Yes, sessions can absolutely be scheduled across different time zones.
Our tutors and students are based in various locations, so we regularly coordinate lessons across time zones. Scheduling is done in a way that works for both the tutor and the student, and we confirm times clearly to avoid any confusion.
Once a tutor is matched, we’ll help align availability and ensure everyone is working off the correct time zone.
Yes — weekend and holiday tutoring sessions are available, subject to tutor availability.
Many of our tutors do offer lessons on weekends and during school holidays, which can be especially helpful for catch-up, exam preparation, or flexible scheduling. Once we understand your preferred days and times, we’ll do our best to match you with a tutor whose availability aligns.
Yes, you can absolutely increase or reduce tutoring sessions during the year.
Our system is flexible, so session frequency can be adjusted at any time based on the student’s needs, workload, or exam timelines. You’re never locked into a fixed schedule, and we’re always happy to adapt the plan as things change.
If a tutor’s availability changes, we’ll work with you to ensure there’s no disruption to learning.
Depending on the situation, we can:
- Adjust the lesson schedule to suit the tutor’s new availability, or
- Match you with an alternative tutor who is equally well suited to the subject and curriculum.
We’ll always communicate changes clearly and make sure you’re comfortable with the solution before moving forward.

Yes, past papers and mark schemes are very much part of our approach to help students understand how marks are awarded, improve exam technique, and practise answering questions in a way that examiners expect.
Our tutors regularly use:
- Past exam papers,
- Official mark schemes, and
- Examiner reports (where available)
To help students understand how marks are awarded, improve exam technique, and practise answering questions in a way that examiners expect.

- Understanding command words and question requirements,
- Structuring answers effectively,
- Allocating time appropriately per question, and
- Practising under timed exam conditions.
This helps students work more confidently and efficiently during exams, not just improve subject knowledge.

Safeguarding concerns are escalated immediately and handled in strict accordance with Global Tutors’ safeguarding and data protection policies.
We take safeguarding very seriously and ensure that any concerns are addressed promptly, confidentially, and with the appropriate procedures in place to protect students at all times.
If a tutor or student breaches conduct rules, the matter is taken seriously and addressed immediately.
Depending on the situation, this may involve:
- reviewing the incident in line with Global Tutors’ conduct and safeguarding policies,
- speaking to the parties involved to gather context,
- issuing guidance or warnings where appropriate, or
- ending the tutoring arrangement and, if necessary, arranging an alternative tutor or suspending services.
Our priority is always to maintain a safe, respectful, and professional learning environment for everyone involved.
Sessions are recorded primarily for safeguarding and quality-assurance purposes, but if a parent or student would like access to a recording for revision or review, this can be arranged upon request, subject to consent and our data protection policies.
If something feels inappropriate, please raise it immediately.
You can:
- contact your Educational Consultant, or

Parental Awareness & Consent

- • Tutors may request that a parent or guardian is nearby during lessons, particularly for younger learners.
- • Parents are welcome to observe lessons if they wish, provided this does not disrupt learning.
Tutor Conduct & Communication
- • Tutors must maintain strict professional boundaries at all times.
- • All communication with students must take place only through approved Global Tutors platforms.
- • No private or personal communication outside of scheduled lessons is permitted

Our Commitment
Through careful tutor vetting, clear conduct expectations, parental involvement, and secure systems, Global Tutors works proactively to minimise risk and ensure a safe, respectful learning experience for all students under 16.
Parents do not need to be present during lessons.
For students under 16, we do recommend that a parent or responsible adult is nearby and available during sessions, especially at the beginning. This helps ensure a safe learning environment and provides support if needed.
As students become more comfortable and independent, parental presence can be reduced, while communication with the tutor and Educational Consultant remains open.
Lessons take place online in a secure virtual learning space.
Students will need:
- a stable internet connection,
- a suitable device (laptop or desktop recommended), and
- a quiet, distraction-free environment to support focused learning.
For the best experience, we recommend using the Google Chrome browser.
In addition, the following are highly beneficial:
- Headphones (to minimise background noise),
- a microphone for clear communication, and
- a tablet with a pen (such as a Wacom or similar) to allow tutors and students to work through problems, diagrams, and written explanations more effectively.
Parents are responsible for ensuring an appropriate setup, particularly for younger students, so lessons can run smoothly and safely.
To ensure a smooth and effective learning experience, we ask both tutors and students to meet the following basic requirements:
💻 Technology Requirements
- • A reliable internet connection
- • A laptop or desktop computer (tablets may be used where appropriate; phones are not recommended).
- • A working webcam and microphone
- • Access to the agreed and approved classroom tools
Tutors are expected to be familiar with digital teaching tools and to manage lesson flow professionally.
📚 Learning Environment
- • A quiet, well-lit study space free from distractions
- • A neutral and appropriate background (physical or virtual)
- • Minimal background noise to allow clear communication
This helps maintain focus and creates a professional, respectful learning environment.
Note: a tablet with a pen (such as a Wacom or similar) to allow tutors and students to work through problems, diagrams, and written explanations more effectively.
Online tutoring lessons are delivered through a secure virtual classroom using video conferencing and interactive tools.
Tutors typically use:
- live video and audio for real-time teaching,
- screen sharing and digital whiteboards to explain concepts, and
- shared documents or resources to work through examples and questions together.
Lessons are one-on-one (unless otherwise arranged) and interactive, allowing tutors to adapt teaching in real time to the student’s needs.
We understand that delays can happen. If a student expects to be late, we ask that they notify the tutor as soon as possible.
If a student arrives within the first 20 minutes, the tutor will continue the session, but the lesson will still end at the originally scheduled time. This is to respect the tutor’s schedule and other student commitments.
If a student arrives more than 20 minutes late without prior notice, the session may be forfeited and charged in full, in line with our cancellation and no-show policy. This is because the tutor has reserved that time and other students are unable to book the slot at short notice.
We recommend securing a regular lesson time and allowing a buffer to avoid missed learning opportunities.
Refunds are not generally provided for unused or expired credits. Each request is reviewed on a case-by-case basis to ensure fairness to both families and tutors.
Where a refund is not applicable, we will always aim to offer alternative solutions, such as rescheduling sessions or extending credit validity where appropriate.
In many cases lessons can be rescheduled if there are genuine internet problems.
If a session is disrupted due to connectivity issues on either side, we ask that you inform the tutor and your Educational Consultant as soon as possible. We’ll then help reschedule where appropriate.
We do recommend testing internet connections in advance to minimise disruptions, but we understand that technical issues can occasionally occur and handle these situations fairly and flexibly.
No-Shows
If a student does not attend a scheduled lesson without prior notice (a no-show), the session is normally charged in full, as the tutor has reserved that time.
To avoid no-show charges, we ask that any cancellations or rescheduling requests are communicated in advance, in line with our cancellation policy.
If a technical issue occurs, both students and tutors are encouraged to try resolve it together where possible.
First, check the following:
- Internet connection
- Camera and microphone settings
- Browser permissions (we recommend using Google Chrome)
Your tutor can often help troubleshoot quickly. If issues persist, please contact support so we can assist and help prevent future disruptions.
If a technical issue occurs, depending on the situation, we may:
- try to resolve the issue and continue the lesson, or
- pause and reschedule the session, or
- arrange a make-up session if a significant portion of the lesson is affected.
We handle technical disruptions fairly and flexibly, and we encourage both tutors and students to test their setup in advance to minimise issues.
Tutors are expected to provide at least 24 hours’ notice if they need to cancel or reschedule a lesson.
If a tutor cancels a session with sufficient notice, the lesson will be rescheduled at a mutually convenient time, with no loss of credits.
If a tutor cancels within 24 hours of the scheduled lesson, Global Tutors will ensure that:
• The lesson is rescheduled at no cost
In all cases, no credits are deducted for tutor-initiated cancellations.
This policy helps maintain fairness, accountability, and continuity of learning, while respecting families’ time and commitments.
We understand that schedules can change, and we aim to be fair to both families and tutors.
Students must cancel or reschedule a session at least 24 hours in advance of the scheduled lesson time. When this notice is given, the session can be rescheduled or the credit retained for future use.
If a lesson is cancelled within 24 hours of the scheduled start time, or if the student does not attend the session (no-show), the lesson will be charged in full. This is because the tutor has reserved that time and is unable to offer it to another student at short notice.
This policy helps:
- • Respect tutors’ professional time
- • Prevent loss of availability for other students
- • Encourage consistent attendance and routine
- • Reduce last-minute scheduling disruptions
We strongly recommend securing a regular lesson time to avoid missed sessions and ensure continuity of support. If exceptional circumstances arise, families are welcome to contact their Educational Consultant to discuss the situation.
Tutoring lessons are flexible and can be adjusted to suit your child’s needs.
Most sessions are typically 60 minutes, but lesson lengths can be:
- • 45 minutes
- • 60 minutes
- • 90 minutes
- • 2 hours (or longer for exam preparation, by arrangement)
Lesson length should be requested in advance, and the tutor will allocate time accordingly. This flexibility allows families to choose shorter sessions for regular support or longer sessions for revision, assessments, or exam-focused work.
Once a lesson is successfully completed, the appropriate amount of time is deducted from your available credits.
We prefer separate accounts for each student to avoid scheduling conflicts and ensure accurate credit tracking and reporting.
Lessons are first set up through your Educational Consultant, who helps match you with the right tutor and ensures everything is in place. Once tutoring has started, you will book lessons directly with your tutor, and you and your tutor are free to organise sessions at times that are convenient for both of you.
While Global Tutors is always here to support you throughout the process, we do not manage individual tutor schedules. Our tutors are independent professionals, so their availability is not fixed and may change based on demand.
We can help assess suitability and make the initial match, but once connected, scheduling is arranged directly between you and the tutor.
To ensure consistency and avoid last-minute cancellations or scheduling issues, we strongly recommend that you lock in a regular day and time with your tutor. Tutors tend to book up quickly, and securing a recurring slot helps create routine, structure, and continuity for your child’s learning.
Parents and students may book:
• Weekly sessions
• Multiple sessions per week
• Short-term or intensive exam preparation
All sessions are subject to tutor availability.
Yes. You’ll be notified when your credits are running low.
We keep track of credit usage on our side and will let you know in advance when it’s time to top up, so there’s no interruption to lessons. You’re also welcome to check in with your Educational Consultant at any time for an update on your remaining balance.
To keep bookings and scheduling clean and well organised, we ask that each tutor is booked separately, depending on availability.
We always encourage consistency where possible. Credits are flexible and may be used across different subjects if your tutor is able to cover them.
Credits are valid for 12 months from the date of purchase, giving you plenty of flexibility to use them at a pace that suits your schedule.
Unused or expired credits are not refundable.
Credits are used on a per-lesson basis.
- One credit = one hour of tutoring.
- Credits are deducted after each completed session.
- Credits can be allocated across different subjects or tutors within the same student account.
- If tutors have different hourly rates, credits may be deducted at different values depending on the tutor used.
We track and manage credit usage on our side and are always happy to update you on your remaining balance.
• Credits are linked to the client profile
• Once a lesson is successfully completed, the appropriate number of credits is allocated to the tutor
• Only completed sessions are deducted, ensuring fairness and accuracy
This system protects both families and tutors by ensuring sessions are properly tracked and confirmed. One credit equals one 60-minute tutoring session. Credits must be purchased in advance and are valid for 12 months from the date of purchase.
Yes, you can top up credits at any time.
To do so, simply request a top-up link from your Educational Consultant. Once payment is completed, the credits will be added to your account and available for immediate use.
There’s no minimum top-up requirement, and you can add credits whenever it suits your schedule or tutoring needs.
You can purchase credits by requesting a payment link from your Educational Consultant.
Once the link is shared, you can complete payment securely online. After payment is confirmed, the credits are added to your account and are available to use for booking lessons straight away.
Our tutoring operates on a credit-based system designed to be flexible and easy to manage.
- 1 credit = 1 hour of tutoring.
- Credits are purchased in advance and deducted after each completed lesson.
- Credits can be used across different subjects or tutors within the same student account.
- If tutors have different hourly rates, credits may be deducted at different values depending on the tutor.
- Credits are valid for 12 months from the date of purchase.
Your Educational Consultant helps manage credit allocation and can assist with top-ups or adjustments at any time.
The credit system works well for families because it offers flexibility, transparency, and control.
- Families can adjust session frequency as needs change during the year.
- Credits allow tutoring across multiple subjects or tutors without long-term commitments.
- Payments are managed upfront, making budgeting simpler and more predictable.
- Sessions are tracked clearly, so families always know how many credits remain.
- Credits can be topped up at any time, allowing support to scale up during exam periods and reduce during quieter weeks.
Overall, it gives families the freedom to tailor tutoring around their child’s changing academic needs.
✔ Flexibility
Lessons don’t have to be the same length every time. Sessions can be:
• 45 minutes
• 60 minutes
• 90 minutes
• 2 hours, or longer if needed
Lesson length can be requested in advance, and the tutor can allocate time accordingly—making this ideal for exam preparation, catch-up sessions, or deeper topic work.
✔ Control & Transparency
Credits give you a clear overview of:
• Sessions completed
• Time used
• Remaining balance
✔ Adaptable to changing needs
If academic priorities change, credits can be adjusted across subjects or tutors (subject to availability), without needing to restart the process.
Child safety is a top priority at Global Tutors, and we take a multi-layered approach to safeguarding learners in online environments.
All tutors on our platform are thoroughly vetted before onboarding. This process includes interviews, qualification verification, reference checks, and up-to-date police clearance. Tutors are selected not only for subject expertise, but also for professionalism, ethics, and their ability to work appropriately with children and young people.
Once onboarded, tutors are monitored and held to strict Global Tutors standards. We maintain ongoing oversight of tutor conduct, communication, and performance, and take immediate action should any concerns arise.
To support child protection, lessons may be recorded for safeguarding purposes, quality assurance, and dispute resolution. These recordings are:
• Securely stored
• Accessed only by authorised Global Tutors staff
• Automatically deleted after 30 days
We also uphold strong data protection standards. Our platforms and systems are secured to protect personal information, communications, and learning data. Access is restricted, data is handled responsibly, and information is never shared without proper authorisation.
Through careful vetting, clear standards, secure technology, and active oversight, we work proactively to minimise risk, prevent harm, and create a safe, professional learning environment for every student and tutor.
To do this, simply contact your Educational Consultant directly and let them know what you’d like adjusted (for example: subject focus, teaching style, pace, or availability).
From there, we’ll coordinate the changes on our side, review suitability, and share new tutor profiles for you to choose from, subject to availability.
While we always encourage continuity with one tutor where possible, we understand that learning needs can evolve. Flexibility is available to ensure your child receives the right support at the right time.
All Global Tutors educators go through a rigorous screening and onboarding process before joining our team. This includes in-depth interviews, qualification verification, reference checks, and annual police clearance, ensuring the highest standards of professionalism and child safety.
Our tutor network includes experienced exam specialists, subject-matter experts, language specialists, Master’s degree holders, senior educators, curriculum specialists, counsellors, and educational psychology professionals. Many have worked extensively across international and national curricula.
Tutors are selected not only for their depth of subject knowledge or language expertise, but also for their strong understanding of curriculum requirements, assessment objectives, and exam standards. This ensures learners receive support that is accurate, relevant, and aligned with their academic pathway.
While our tutors operate as independent professionals, they are required to adhere to strict Global Tutors standards around ethics, communication, confidentiality, and learner care. This allows us to maintain consistency, quality, and integrity across the platform—while still offering families flexibility and personalised matching.
In short, our team is diverse and highly qualified with the expertise needed to support learners academically, linguistically, and holistically.
Tutors do not routinely communicate directly with schools, but this can be arranged if needed.
If school communication would be helpful (for example, aligning on syllabus coverage or assessment expectations), this can happen with parent consent and is usually coordinated through your Educational Consultant to ensure clarity and professionalism.
Our primary focus is supporting the student, while keeping parents fully informed and involved.
Yes, tutors do provide feedback and progress updates.
This may include:
- informal updates during or after lessons,
- feedback shared in the subject WhatsApp group, and
- observations about progress, challenges, or areas needing focus.
Your Educational Consultant can also provide updates or request more formal feedback if needed, ensuring parents stay informed about their child’s progress.
Yes, tutors can help with homework, projects, and assessments.
Allocated lesson time can be used for homework support, projects, exam practice, or revision, depending on the student’s needs.
Any time a tutor spends reviewing work, marking past papers, or providing feedback outside of live lessons is credited accordingly. Parents can request this support in advance, and the time will be deducted from the student’s available credits.
To ensure fairness and clarity, we do not encourage ongoing academic support via chat outside of lesson time. If additional review or marking is needed (for example, a project or past paper), credits can be allocated to appropriately cover the tutor’s time.
This approach allows families to use credits flexibly and transparently while respecting tutors’ time.
Tutors aim to work in alignment with your child’s school pace, while also providing support where needed.
In most cases, tutors:
- follow the school syllabus and assessment timeline,
- reinforce current topics being covered at school, and
- fill in gaps where understanding may be weaker.
If a student is ready or needs additional support, tutors may move slightly ahead to build confidence or prepare for upcoming work, but this is always done thoughtfully and in consultation with the student and parents.
Tutors assess your child’s starting level through a combination of observation, discussion, and diagnostic work.
This usually includes:
- asking questions during the first few sessions to gauge understanding,
- reviewing recent schoolwork, tests, or past papers, and
- observing how your child approaches questions, problem-solving, and exam-style tasks.
Based on this, the tutor identifies strengths, gaps, and learning needs and then tailors lessons accordingly. Your Educational Consultant can also help coordinate this process if more formal feedback is needed.
Yes, you can pause tutoring and resume later.
There’s no obligation to continue uninterrupted. Credits remain valid for 12 months, so you’re free to pause during busy periods and restart when it suits your schedule. Just let your tutor or Educational Consultant know so we can coordinate everything smoothly.
Yes , our tutors are trained and experienced in working with shy or anxious students.
They take a supportive, patient approach, helping students build confidence at their own pace. Tutors focus on creating a calm, encouraging learning environment, adapting their teaching style to suit each student’s personality and needs so students feel comfortable and supported.
If your child doesn’t connect well with the tutor, please let us know. Tutor–student fit is important, and if something isn’t working, we can:
- discuss adjustments to the approach or structure of sessions, or
- match your child with a different tutor who may be a better fit.
Your Educational Consultant will help guide this process to ensure your child feels comfortable and supported.
We use a bespoke tutor-matching process that combines:
- a structured tutor-matching system,
- our team’s close working relationships with tutors, and
- your child’s grade, curriculum, subject needs, and learning style.
We decide on the best tutor fit by looking at a combination of academic needs, learning style, and personality.
We consider:
- the subject and curriculum your child is studying,
- the tutor’s experience and expertise at that level,
- your child’s learning style and confidence level, and
- any specific goals, such as exam preparation or confidence building.
Based on this, your Educational Consultant carefully matches your child with a tutor who is best suited to support both their academic progress and personal learning needs.
This allows us to recommend tutors who are both academically strong and personally well suited to support your child effectively.
We strongly recommend separate accounts for each child. Sharing accounts or credits often creates scheduling conflicts, tracking issues, and credit allocation disruptions in the system.
We support both short-term help and ongoing tutoring.
Some families use tutoring for short-term support, such as exam preparation, revision, or catching up on specific topics. Others prefer ongoing tutoring for consistent academic support throughout the year. Our flexible credit system allows you to choose what works best for your child and adjust as needs change.
Yes. Global Tutors is not a school, and tutoring can start at any time during the year, including mid-term or close to exams.
There’s no requirement to begin at the start of a term. We regularly support students who join at different points in the academic year, whether for catch-up, exam preparation, or targeted subject support.
Before tutoring begins, we usually arrange a short introductory Meet & Greet session so the student and tutor can:
- meet each other,
- discuss goals and challenges, and
- ensure there’s a good fit.
- 15 virtual meeting that helps everyone feel comfortable before moving into regular lessons.
In most cases, your child can start tutoring within a few days of enquiry.
Once we’ve gathered the necessary details and matched you with a suitable tutor, we arrange an introductory session and set up scheduling as quickly as possible. Start times may vary slightly depending on tutor availability and subject, but we always aim to get students started promptly.
Online tutoring with Global Tutors is designed to be flexible, supportive, and well-structured.
Here’s how it works:
- Initial enquiry & consultation
- You share your child’s subjects, curriculum, goals, and learning needs. An Educational Consultant reviews this and guides you through the process.
- Tutor matching
- We use a bespoke matching process to recommend tutors who are academically and personally well suited to your child.
- Introductory session
- A short meet-and-greet is arranged so the student and tutor can connect and ensure a good fit before lessons begin.
- Tutoring & scheduling
- Once confirmed, lessons are scheduled directly between you and the tutor at mutually convenient times. Sessions are delivered live online using video, screen sharing, and interactive tools.
- Credits & flexibility
- Tutoring runs on a credit-based system (1 credit = 1 hour). Credits are used as lessons take place and can be topped up anytime.
- Ongoing support
- Tutors provide feedback, and your Educational Consultant remains available for adjustments, questions, or additional support.
This structure allows families to receive high-quality tutoring with flexibility and clear communication throughout.
