“My son really benefited from the way Jafar’s teaches and would not have made it through matric without his help and input. By engaging in regular tutoring, my son was able to rest assured that Jafar would always be there to help through difficult concepts especially in exam periods. From my son’s experience, Jafar was able to convey concepts both in Maths and English, in several different ways if he was not grasping the idea. Jafar also relies heavily on interpersonal skills and engaging with students in order to gauge their level of competence. This allows for students to feel comfortable in asking questions or coming back to a concept with ease and not afraid of asking repeat questions if they struggle with an equation.”

“We found Kenan for our son because we wanted him to practise his English more regularly. He is quite a shy boy and would usually become very quiet when he had to speak English. Kenan has been wonderful with him. They have lessons every Saturday, but it feels much more like a conversation than a formal English class. They talk about soccer and other things our son is interested in, and Kenan uses these conversations to get him speaking and practising naturally. The change in his confidence has been lovely to see. He now talks much more freely in English and actually looks forward to his Saturday lessons.”
What you need to know and how we support your child
CAPS English is taught as Home Language or First Additional Language. They are different subjects, with different papers in the NSC examinations set by the Department of Basic Education. At Global Tutors we specialise in CAPS English and match the tutor to the level your child is taking. This is not the IEB English paper. We hand pick the best tutor for your child's needs.
For CAPS English, we focus on analysis of texts, essay technique, and the language or literature skills your child's curriculum requires. Our tutors help your child plan responses and write with clarity and precision.
For Grades 10 to 12, lessons follow the CAPS content and then the NSC question style for CAPS English. These are the papers set by the Department of Basic Education, not the IEB papers.
Assessment is school-based assessment plus the final examination. We can explain an SBA task and how it is marked. We guide planning and feedback, but we do not write or complete assessed work for the student. Sessions are one-to-one and booked around the school timetable.
We align to the CAPS content for this subject and to the NSC papers set by the Department of Basic Education.
We focus on the command words and mark-scheme language that examiners use for CAPS English.

Feedback from our parents, school leaders, and students
Kenan has been teaching our son Mathematics and English and we couldn't be happier with him. Kenan has a very relaxed way with children but still keeps him focused and makes sure the work gets done. We've noticed that our son is much more confident with both subjects and doesn't…

Study strategy
A clear path from your syllabus or specification to exam day
Grade 10-12
Cover the curriculum systematically using CAPS and the IEB NSC Subject Assessment Guidelines. Build strong foundations in core topics so your child can apply knowledge in exams. We use past papers and marking guidelines to show what is expected.
From Grade 11 or early Grade 12
Practise with IEB NSC past papers under exam conditions. Use the official marking guidelines (available on the IEB website) to see how marks are awarded. Identify question types and cognitive levels so your child prepares for the full range.
As per school deadlines
Complete SBA tasks with support on planning, structure, and analysis. We guide planning and feedback, but we do not write or complete assessed work for the student.
Months before finals
Target weak areas and do full past papers under timed conditions. Focus on time management, question interpretation, and the presentation examiners expect. Avoid cramming; consistent revision over months works best.
Use IEB NSC past papers and marking guidelines from the IEB website (Resources) or your child's school.
Study in blocks (e.g. 50 minutes) with breaks; tackle harder subjects when you are freshest.
Create a revision timetable and stick to it; start at least 2-3 months before exams.
Practise under exam conditions: time limits, no notes, quiet environment.
Ask for help early; do not leave concept gaps or SBA to the last minute.
The South African Department of Basic Education and IEB recommend starting exam preparation early, using past papers, and studying in a structured way. Create a timetable and dedicate 3-4 hours daily to revision in the run-up to exams.
Use past papers and marking guidelines so you know the format and how marks are awarded. Study harder subjects first when your child is fresh, and use active techniques (summaries, practice questions) rather than passive reading.
Avoid cramming in the final days; it increases stress and does not build long-term understanding. Our tutors can align this approach to your subjects and help your child target the topics and question types that will make the biggest difference to their results.

Outcomes depend on commitment, starting level, and goals. We focus on sustainable progress and exam readiness where relevant.
Our tutors are qualified educators with experience in CAPS English. We match you with someone who fits your child's level, goals, and schedule. All tutors are vetted and supported by Global Tutors. You can see tutor profiles and specialisms when you search so you choose someone aligned to your child's curriculum and subject.
Sessions are delivered on our interactive online learning platform. Your child can learn from home or anywhere with a stable internet connection. We use a dedicated platform designed for one-to-one learning so your child can focus on the lesson. Your child will need a device with a camera and microphone; many students use a laptop or tablet. No special software is required beyond the link we send you.
Yes. Our tutors are familiar with the IEB and the National Senior Certificate (NSC). We use CAPS and the IEB NSC Subject Assessment Guidelines and past papers with marking guidelines. We support school-based assessment (SBA) and final exam preparation so your child is ready for both components.
We hand pick the best tutor for your child's needs. Tell us your child's subject, level, curriculum (e.g. IB (International Baccalaureate), Cambridge, IEB), and goals (e.g. exam prep, coursework help, or general support). We recommend a tutor and you book your child's first lesson. If the fit is not right, our Fit-First Guarantee lets you request a replacement so you can try another tutor for your child at no extra cost.
We offer a Fit-First Guarantee: if your child's first lesson is not the right match, we'll replace your child's tutor - no questions asked. The replacement must be for the same subject and curriculum. This way you can focus on finding the right tutor without worrying about commitment after one session.
The IEB website (ieb.co.za) publishes NSC Past Papers and NSC Subject Assessment Guidelines under Resources. We use these in sessions to practise exam-style questions and show your child how marks are awarded. Your school may also provide past papers; we can work with whatever materials your child has access to.
Starting in Grade 11 or early Grade 12 gives time to build concepts and practise past papers. Many students also use tutoring for intensive revision in the final months. We can tailor a plan to your schedule and target your child's weakest subjects or topics first.
Yes. Sessions are scheduled around your availability. You can arrange regular weekly slots or book ad-hoc lessons depending on your package and tutor availability. Many students have a fixed time each week; others prefer to book as they go, especially during exam revision.
